The River
Many a time I think of you, beside the river
The days that came and are gone
And so suddenly you left the world
Leaving many to weep for your song.
And by the sacred river
You spoke of wisdom beyond mere years
And entwined your eternal faith
And you sang of beauty surrounding
Everyone, and the smile upon your face
Lit our own glowing hearts.
The dreams you had of yesterday
Were merely scalding nightmares
But silently, silently you slipped away
From our eyes, not from our souls.
And may you sleep by the sacred river
Taken from this life in deepening love
But now forever in memory
May you sleep eternally.
And may you sleep in the peaceful river
And swim with the fishes
And take breath anew
Take what wisdom this life has given you
For life is a precious gift
Even though it is wrapped in mystery
Unravelled by strife
You were a light in my darkness
And a comfort when days seemed endless.
Sleep in the river.
