A story by yes, you guessed it, Olivia. How did you guess?
Anyroad. Here it is, finally.
Gemma stood back and admired her handiwork. The colour poster of her idols hung on the wall, straight, with their cheeky grins staring back at her. She smiled and glanced around the room. The poster was one of many hanging on the walls. Every square inch was taken up by a picture of the Beatles, a calendar, a picture printed off the internet. She sighed in happiness and sat down on the floor to admire the new poster.
She had been wandering downtown, enjoying the warm July weather, then suddenly noticed a shop with a lot of cobwebs drifting in the front window. She looked in through the window. The shelves seemed to be full of random junk scattered mostly everywhere. Gemma had shrugged to herself and entered slowly. It smelled dusty, and the light tinkle of the bell on the door made her jump. She looked all around her, and suddenly something caught her eye. An almost new poster was hanging on the wall, brightly shining through all the other junk, that seemed to almost dim in comparison.
Funny now she thought about it, how could a poster be shiny? But she stared at it for a second, and knew she wanted it. She had never seen the picture before, and it cost exactly how much she had on her, $5.45.
“Pretty, isn’t it?”Said a voice behind her. Gemma started, and turned. A yound woman stood behind her, who seemed to be wearing pretty odd clothes, more seventies than modern, but Gemma nodded and smiled. The woman laughed and picked it off the wall, then started rolling. Gemma frowned.
“Wait a sec. I didn’t say-”
The woman laughed, seeming to find Gemma’s confusion funny. “But you want it, don’t you, Gemma?” She smiled nervously, a little more freaked. How did the woman know her name?
“Erm, yeah. Can I get it, then?” The woman nodded, wrote something down on a piece of paper, then dropped the paper and poster in a bag and handed it to her. Gemma raised an eyebrow. She didn’t have to pay?
“Courtesy of the store, Gemma. Enjoy it while it lasts. Any problems, call us on the number I wrote.” And suddenly Gemma found herself outside, gripping the bag, with no recollection of having left the store.
She frowned again, sitting on the floor. How odd it was. She shook off the recollection and looked over at the poster and smiled. It was great, it really was. She heaved a sigh, and got up slowly. She wandered over to her bookcase to pick out a book so she could lie on her bed, cool down and read a book, relaxing.
Suddenly a sound behind her caught her attention. Her green eyes wided and she spun, her heart thumping.
