That's exactly what I thought, too.

Yeah, and with the divorce and stuff, it would have been hard. You all are talking about Julian being jealous of Sean, but think of the resentment he could have harbored toward Yoko

That's also very true. From articles and stuff I read about Yoko she was kind of pushy and bossy. So to have his dad marry someone other then his mom, and be bossy, there probably would have been resentment.

There's probably definitely some resentment there.. or at least there was.
There's a quote from when Julian was on Conan quite a while ago.. I have to see if I can find it...
Oh, I've lost it. Should've saved the link. Anyway, it went something like...
Conan: I've heard you feel more influenced by Paul than your dad, is that true? Julian: Yes, because Paul was more about the melody, dad's stuff was just really hard-hitting, you know? C: Have you stayed in touch with Paul? J: Not very much, but I did go to his house once, a while ago. He wanted to show me some of his new recording stuff (it was something like that) We were a little cold at first, tense. But after a while, we had tea and actually, what broke the ice was, we started telling stories about Yoko. C: Oh, yeah you had some common ground there!!
Heh, I love Conan.

I don't know, exactly, I found the transcript online a while ago. I'm pretty sure it was at least a few years ago. I'll try to find it again.

Well, miracle of miracles. I just went back and looked it up again... and there it was. Weird, I swear it wasn't there before. Anyway, this is the link... www.heyjules.com/photographsmile/tv/1999june18conan.htmlIt was in 1999. This was the part I was talking about before... Conan: The uh, you know I was, I'm fascinated to learn that you as a songwriter, as a musician, you feel you're more influenced by Paul McCartney than by your father. Is that the case?
Julian: Uh. . . uh, uh, well, i-in, in a sense, yeah. I-I mean, Dad's work is uh, I-I mean I love it, but uh it's, it's a lot more aggressive uh, and uh, m-much more rock-based whereas Paul's work is much more melodic.
Conan: Mmm-hmm.
Julian: You know, and I've always, I've always been much more interested in that. In, in the melodic side of things. And so yeah, it does, it does hint towards his writing style more than Dad's, I would say.
Conan: Have you hung out with, with Paul McCartney at all? Have you bonded with him?
Julian: I, yeah, uh sort of. I, I was invited um, about a year ago to go down to his house and his studio. And he showed me around his studio and it was a lil, little tense, a little cold. Um. We hadn't broken the ice yet and uh, and he showed me around the studio and he had tons of all of his memorabilia, and all the instruments they used in some of the tracks in The Beatles. And he sat down and played a lot of them, which I, blew me away.
Conan: Mmm-hmm.
Julian: Uh, but I think, I think the thing that truly broke the ice is, is when we decided to sit down in the kitchen, have a cup of tea and a sandwich, and the thing that broke the ice was telling stories about Yoko.
Conan: Yeah (laughs). You found some common ground there. Yeah (laughs).
Julian: We certainly did, we certainly did. Yeah.
Conan: Hours and hours and hours, yeah.
Julian: Endless amounts of fun.

That is so awesome! Thank you so much for posting that! From the reading he sounded a little nervous...? lol. I don't know though, I didn't see the show.
But thanks again!

Thanks for posting that transcript. It's good to know that although John wasn't such a good father to Julian, he did have a nice friendship with Paul. I've seen a few photos of the two of them when Julian was little. Quite cute! I love the quote about Yoko too, haha. "Endless amounts of fun!"

I remember one picture of Paul and Julian. I thought it was adorable. Paul was holding Julian's hand and he was next to Jane Ascher. For some reason that picture stands out in my mind.

I thought it was so cute that Paul wrote Hey Jude for him. But it's kind of sad that his father couldn't have been the one to do something like that, you know?

I've been listening to Valotte a lot lately - and I just wanted to let ya'll know that it's really good. I like it a lot, anyway, especially the title track, Valotte. The creepy thing about it is that he sounds so much like John, but his music is pretty hardcore 80s, so you listen to it and think... but... but this is impossible! It's still good. I haven't listened to The Secret Value of Daydreaming yet because I only have it on vinyl and my turntable isn't hooked up right. There's a line in Valotte I really like - "We're really not as clever as we seem to think we are/We always have our troubles, so we solve them at the bar" <3333
So I guess I've earned my reputation? I am obsessed with him. XD

I thought it was so cute that Paul wrote Hey Jude for him. But it's kind of sad that his father couldn't have been the one to do something like that, you know? John did write "Good Night" as a lullaby to Julian though. I think he was so self-concious about the song so he made Ringo sing it, if I remember correctly. And Julian didn't even know it was for him until 1980.

Please please please tell me he didn't know it until sometime in 1980 BEFORE December 8th. Please please please if he didn't know it until after John was dead, I'm just going to cry.
