Paul shook himself out of his reverie, and looked down at the cigarette in his hand. He shut his bloodshot eyes briefly and tossed the cigarette away. He rubbed his face tiredly and looked around, seeing his apartment in a new, barren light. It seemed huge and disgustingly grey, and just looking around made him angry.
He got up slowly and carefully, trying not to touch anything. He stared at the phone, willing it to ring.
“Let it be anyone, I don’t care” he prayed quietly. “Jesus christ,” He muttered after a few seconds, and turned away. He wandered around the apartment, picking up random bits of garbage and tossing them into a pile. He picked up speed and was quickly sweeping up cigarette ashes.
He grabbed a piece of paper that was lurking in the corner and read it, seeing the lyrics that he had briefly wrtten earlier. He snorted at them and threw it over his shoulder. Maybe he’d finish it and give it to Ringo to sing or something.
He abruptly stopped and dumped the broom on the floor, getting ashes all over his already dirty suit jacket. He lay himself on the ground, craving another cigarette. Instead, he dragged himself over to the phone and dialled John’s number. John picked up, shouting, “What?” into the reciever. Paul moaned and dropped the phone back on the cradle. “He doesn’t care.” Paul said to the empty room, and dropped himself back onto the floor. John could wait.

John held the phone to his ear, and hearing it drop, he assumed something had happened to Paul.
He picked up his car keys, and left as soon as possible.
Paul lied on the ground, observing the ceiling. T'is a nice shape isn't it? He thought to himself, swinging his head sideways.
There was a knock at the door.
"Fuck off" He yelled. He really didn't have the time for anyone right now. "Paul, open the damn door you lazy bugger!" He heard John's fists banging on the door.
He pulled himself up to his knees, and with great difficulty, pushed himself up with them.
He walked slowly over to the door, and opened it.
"Thought something was wrong" John stared at the phone, and then turned to him.
"No, not really. Just admiring the ceiling". Paul sighed. "Alright Paul, let's talk. What's going on with Jane?" He asked, taking a seat on the couch, and turning to look at him.
"I don't know! That's what it's about. I'm so fucking confused..." He plonked himself down on the ground again and leant against the wall.
"She playing you around?" John asked.
