Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile,
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
"You go down this hall here, and to the left, there's another big hall. Don't go down the left hall, nor the right one. The turnstile should be right in front of you, at the crossroads of two halls."
"Oh, ok. Thank you! And, sorry, once again!" I began to walk quickly down the hall. 'It's a very long hall,' I thought. Finally, I came to the turnstile.
"Lucy!" I yelled and ran to her. "Man, stop leaving me!"
Lucy grabbed my hand. "I'm sorry," she said.
"Yeah, you should be," I pouted.
Lucy brought her face close to ear and she whispered very softly, so softly I could barely hear her over the bustle of the train station.
"Its time to go now, Rita," she said calmly.
"Awww" I looked down. "Is it really necessary?"
"Yes," she whispered back. "You'll just have to wait for next time." She moved away from my face and gave me one last genuine Lucy look. "Until next time." She said brightly. Lucy let go of my hand and started to sing that one song that the men were singing on the shore were singing to me. "Lovely Rita, meter maid, nothing can come between us, when it gets dark, I tow your heart away..." By the time she had said 'away', everything was black.
I felt something drop on my head. I opened my eyes. Michele was standing over me holding the soccer ball over my head, getting ready to drop it again.
"Are you coming back to the game or not, Rita?" she asked.
"Yeah, just a minute." Michele ran off and joined mom and dad. I slowly got up from where I was laying, and without another thought, joined them as well.
I pressed my head against the cool window as headlights after headlights passed us on the freeway.
"Are we there yet?" Michele asked from the seat next to me.
"We're almost home, about five minutes away." Dad called from the driver's seat.
I closed my eyes, feeling the car glide into all of those memorized turns into our neighborhood. Finally, the car stopped short into the driveway. I practically sleepwalked into the house and into my bed. I closed my eyes and immediately hit the sack. Between that stage where you aren't quite asleep but still aren't awake, someone started walking towards me. As I fell into a deep sleep and the person as well as the setting became clearer. In my dreams, I yelled out to the person.
"Hello?"
Lucy turned and smiled. "I thought I'd see you here."
