June 1, 1967. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is released in the UK to follow the next day in the U.S.A.! Some Pepper tidbits:
The album was recorded over a period of 129 days. It was originally intended as a concept album and to run seamlessly throughout.
There are 63 people depicted on that iconic cover. Do you know who they are? Here's a keyto help you out!
There was a frenzy of rumors about Paul being dead, and fans found many "clues" to that on the cover. Here are the most popular.
It was the first gatefold album cover. It also was the first one to contain cardboard "cutouts":
1. Moustache
2. Picture Card
3. Stripes
4. Badges
5. Standee
It was the first LP to feature lyrics on the reverse.
There's a Beatle impostor on the back cover! Yes, Paul flew to America to be with Jane Asher on her 21st birthday (she was working on a project here) so Mal Evans donned Paul's Pepper getup and stood in, back facing the camera to conceal his identity.
Inner sleeve designed by Seemon and Marijke, collectively known as "The Fool".
Track listing:
1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
2. With a Little Help from My Friends
3. Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds
4. Getting Better
5. Fixing a Hole
6. She's Leaving Home
7. Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!
8. Within You Without You
9. When I'm Sixty-Four
10. Lovely Rita
11. Good Morning Good Morning

Songs also recorded during the Pepper sessions that didn't make the album :
Strawberry Fields Forever
Penny Lane

Only A Northern Song
And a "Drum Track" which was never mixed or released.
Innovative. Electric. It changed the way rock music was played and listened to from then onward.
