The mini discussion about the meaning of the song "Norwegian Wood" on the "Favorite Beatles Song" thread sparked me to start this new thread.
There's lots of room for individual interpretation in the Beatles songs particularly those written by John Lennon who loved word play and weird imagery. Metaphor, and buried meaning abound.
Fans have spent countless hours trying to analyze and figure out these meanings, and sometimes come up with interesting, strange, and yes, funny interpretations of their own.
What are some of yours?
"Surrealism had a great effect on me because then I realised that the imagery in my mind wasn't insanity. Surrealism to me is reality. " - John Lennon

I had this theory once that that Help was about teachers suffering from stress.

I used to think that Twist and Shout was about a boy and a girl fighting.

My Dad's fiance asks me all the time what the meaning behind Beatles songs are..
...it's hard to explain to her sometimes.
But, her HUGE one was what was the meaning behind "Back in the U.S.S.R." Does anyone know what it is? Because I get the idea that it's someone that was either away on a trip or someone coming back from war...

it says on iamthebeatles.com that it's basically parodying that Beach Boys song "Back In The USA" with a more ''familiar location'' and interest in girls and such. it makes sense.
i thought when i was younger that Rocky Raccoon was actually about a raccoon, still when i listen to it i think of raccoons as the people in the song. XD

i thought when i was younger that Rocky Raccoon was actually about a raccoon, still when i listen to it i think of raccoons as the people in the song. XD lol, me too! I always picture "Rocky" to be a big raccoon walking around his hotel room, reading Gideon's bible... I can't imagine "real" people in that song!

in my english class i had to point out poetry stuff in lyrics to a song. and i did while my guitar gently weeps. and i concluded that the theme was how noone cares for eachother anymore. and noone is taught how to love. i wrote more then that... im too lazy to go get my paper to write it.
