I think 1 is amazing, but only for beatles "beginners". *nods* I have to agree with you there, hon. This guy came into FYE on Sun. and I noticed he was flipping through our Beatles section, so I walked over and asked if he had anything. He was looking at "1" and I said, "That's good and all, but it doesn't show you how much the Beatles can actually do. Some of their best songs were never #1 hits. So you should get Rubber Soul, Revolver, the White Album, and Abbey Road to start your collection." He said he'd think about it. Then went and looked at our E.L.O. stuff (because apparently he's the E.L.O. equivilent of what we are )

Well, ELO's pretty cool. But, you know, not in comparison to The Beatles. XD
I totally agree about 1. It doesn't really give you an idea of their true greatness at all, if you ask me. I mean, there are a lot of great songs on there, especially in the second half of the CD, but there's definitely better albums out there.

see at the beginning, I LOVED the younger songs, like love me do, please please me, etc. I still love them, but then I was obsessed because they were so simple...and romantic. guys aren't like that nowadays. So I really really liked the younger songs, but I've discovered there are much better albums for that sort of thing. also...I like...their "middle"albums right now. and the white album. ;D

Oh, I love their earlier stuff too. Mind, it's in a completely different way than I love the later stuff, but I do love it. However, if I was putting together some of their earlier songs for a CD, most of the ones on 1 wouldn't be there. I've never cared for I Want To Hold Your Hand, and Love Me Do... I don't know, gets tiresome. Most of my favorite earlier songs, like Please Please Me, aren't even on 1, so I just don't enjoy it very much.

1 is actually what got me started so I have to give it some credit. I still love I Want to Hold Your Hand, it gives me that warm tingly feeling. Lol. Like, it's so romantic and 'puppy love-ish'. "You've got that something" I love that line so much, I think because Sometimes I have a desire to listen to a varity of their music periods, and 1 is the closet I'll get, not counting Red and Blue Albums.

I kind of have something against 1 because it pissed me off as a little kid. I give it... some credit in getting me into the boys but... I can't forgive it for pissing me off XD Mostly Yellow Submarine is what got me hooked, I loved Hey Bulldog

My favourite line in the younger days in the line "and when I touch you I feel happy inside" I love that! I just think..it's so direct and forward...all their early songs are like that. that's what I like about the early songs. yeah. she loves you, love me do and some others get irritating. I like...I feel fine. my favourite early song, I'd have to say, because it's like..a mix of middle and early periods. like the "love" concept, but with amazing melodies, etc. you knw what I mean. and the beginning was just genius. ALL JOHN, MAN!! heehee. he's such a LOVELY genius, too! but still...like "I Will" has good "love" concepts...but it's still amazing.

I'm actually working on a mixed CD of Beatles love songs. I made it a while ago, and it was mostly early stuff and went back and decided I hated it. So tonight I've been entirely redoing with more later stuff. (Not everything on it is actually love songs, there's some anthology stuff that I just thought was beautiful, and a couple representative songs.) The new one is almost finished (it's slightly longer than a CD as of now and I have to cut a couple songs, but I don't want to get rid of any of them, so I'm all hemming and hawing over it) and I think I like it a lot ^__^ I'll post it somewhere on the forum when I've finished

Crow, hon, I hope you have "Because" on that love song CD...
That's probably my favorite "love" song, along with "It's Only Love" because honestly, that song describes what most of us feel when we see the guy we're into...
"I get high when I see you go by, my oh my. When you sigh my my inside just flies, butterflies. Why am I so shy when I'm beside you?"
Ahhh......

I don't have It's Only Love because... well, I don't know, I just don't, but it's a great song. But I do have Because, but it's not the version from Abbey Road, it's the a cappella version from the Anthology
And actually there's like 4 Lennon songs on there. But I don't care. Two of them I needed to be on there to go with the theme (I'll explain about the theme when I post it) but the other two I just wanted anyway.

I never got 1 (Bad fan, I know). When I started getting into the Beatles though, I would just download songs and make my own mix CD's. Then I started buying the albums cause I loved them so much. I still have a lot of those CD's... they're fun to listen to. It's like hearing the evolution of my obsession.
I've looked at the tracklisting for 1 and I agree that it misses a lot. Those 2 double albums (red and blue albums) seem to do a better job of covering the "essentials."
