JOHN Lennon's original handwritten lyrics for All You Need Is Love are among unique rock memorabilia which could fetch £1.2m under the hammer this month.
The lyric sheet is part of the greatest collection of Lennon artefacts ever assembled, a collection built up over a quarter of a century by a private collector, and alone is estimated at £500,000.
An original painting done at art school ( estimate £ 80 -100,000), the Vox organ used at the legendary 1965 Shea Stadium concert, an embroidered bedspread from the John and Yoko Montreal "bed-in" (£30-50,000), a table from the home Lennon shared with first wife Cynthia, and a military bandstyle jacket said to have inspired the Sgt Pepper look (£150,000) are among a dozen lots which span Lennon's career from Liverpool student days to his final solo album.
The collection was on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for five years and the Beatles Story museum at the Albert Dock for six months.
London - based rock auction specialist Cooper Owen is selling the memorabilia at the Hippodrome nightclub on July 28.
The Lennon collection will be the highlight of a wider music legends auction.
Cooper Owen director Ted Owen said: "Every item speaks for itself in terms of rarity, importance and cultural significance.
"Together, they represent all the best elements of the man himself - they are iconic, idealistic and irreverent." Beatles Story operations manager Louise Collier said: "These are very important items of musical history.
"We were really pleased to have the opportunity for people from all over the world to see this collection before it maybe passes into the hands of another private collector, or gets split up.
"We'll definitely keep an eye on it and see who picks the pieces up, but I don't think we'll be bidding for anything ourselves."
Among the other lots under the hammer in the general auction are Beatles handmade and signed birthday cards, George Harrison's 12-string Harpitone guitar, Lennon's Ivor Novello award for She Loves You, and Sir Paul McCartney's childhood Rupert the Bear book from 1948.
There is also Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan memorabilia.
