The previous three ('A World Without Love', 'Nobody I Know' and 'I Don't Want To See You Again') had all become hits, and Paul had started to wonder whether that was because of the quality of the songs, or because Lennon/McCartney had written them. Therefor, he decided to write 'Woman' under the name of 'Bernard Webb'. Even so, 'Woman' too became a hit.
